Dom. Chan Chan - Vins d'Altitude. A new-generation wine estate crafting refined, high-end wines from organically farmed, high-altitude vineyards on granite soils in the Roussillon. The estate is headed up by Manuel Hebrard & Mathieu Tiché who have previously spent time with our friends Danjou-Banessy, Gilles Troullier and Leah Angles to gain invaluable experience to help enable them work as well as they can in their breath-taking vineyards.
Wow-wee. What an unusual but utterly remarkable treat. 100% Syrah grown on high altitude granite. Two thirds picked for "Rosé" and directly pressed, the remaining third picked a little later and put to a 48h cold-soak when fermentation is underway on the first pick and then the later juice is added. This produces wonderful lifted aromas but little tannin and a quite extraordinary colour for the cepage. A wine of great energy and interest that happens to be utterly delicious. Bravo Chan Chan!
