Another atypical expression of Dolcetto, this is from sandy soil around Berri. These are the only ungranted, pre-phylloxera Dolcetto vines in the region, based on a clone from the 1800s; there are just 4,000 plants. Manuel gives the wine a couple of months in his oldest botte. Spicier than usual for a Dolcetto, this can age surprisingly well.

Owner Manuel Marchetti implements long fermentations, macerations, and ageing in large ancient botti. Marcarini’s wines remains traditional, but we’re finding a new zip and lift of energy for this historic cantina.
